Why only an integrated approach on eco-driving gives sustainable fuel consumption reduction ?

May 19, 2011

Well, the answer is really simple.  When transport companies only put technology into places like on-board computers there’s no change of behaviour or acquisition of  proactive eco-driving skills.   Also when companies only invest in eco-driving training they realise that 3 weeks later most of the drivers have forgotten what they learned as they cannot follow-up on the results.

The training part should really be considered as an Aha-moment where the driver realises he’s the key factor in achieving fuel econonomies. Therefore the driver coach will have support tools to measure before and after training the fuel consumption and average speed, completed with an analysis which changes in driving behaviour have led to this improvements (better anticipation, optimized gearing, minimum idling, driving in the green rpm zone of the engine). The typical improvements are between 10 and 15% during training.

To make this results sustainable the driving behaviour must be monitored continuously.  Frequent feedback and debrief sessions with the driver really show that the company is taking this seriously and that there is a win-win-win for every body : higher safety and less stress for the driver, lower fuel cost for the owner and a lowered carbon footprint for the community.

The integrated approach of  Transics and Key Driving Competences called TX-ECO  is the best answer to the rising fuel prices.
